So today I've been working on some tests of the OFusion system in 3ds Max. I started out today trying to get OFusion to display a plane with an alpha'd gradient in a way that lets you see objects behind the plane, but it wasn't having it. I think I need to update my version, which isn't really possible on a lab computer. So failing that, I've been working on objects for the game. There are going to be a LOT of objects in this game. We're talking Katamari Damacy proportions here. The first level we're working on is currently looking at well over 100 unique items. So somebody has to model them, and I guess that somebody is me. Currently I've got about 50 objects modelled with UVs layed out, but the real brunt of the work is going to be texturing. Luckily I'll have some help with this pretty soon.
So! I have to go soon, my roommate/coworker Andy gets a little anxious if we don't get out of here on time :p. What I wanted to share today was the first game character I designed. Unlike Cleo he doesn't have a name...I'm still working on something for him. He is kind of a mix between a robot, a football player, and a soldier from Desert Storm. He...appears to be very happy. And he's really big. That's about all I have to say about him really.
later.
So pretty much what I've been up to lately is designing and modelling characters for this here game. What kind of characters you ask? Well, robots, of course! We chose to make this game with robots because it's ok to do violent and despicable things to robots that you can't do to humans, and also, their arms don't have to be physically attached to their bodies and stuff. Gives us...creative freedom or something like that. So far I've done two characters, the one in the picture to the right is "Cleo" as Andy Sr. calls her. She kind of looks like a Cleo...a sadistic, demonchild bikerbabe Cleo. Cleo is one of the Children of Galactadon, who is the greatest space robot in the universe - a giant rampaging monstrosity of tempered steel, and melavolence. Basically Galactadon's kids are in their awkward teenage years, rebelling against their "dad".
Well, now it's back to modelling more objects for the game...not as fun as making characters, but necessary.
bye now.

Dear Blog,
today I worked on finishing a characters uvw map and began texturing it. I also delved into the strange workings of OFusion, and actually had some positive results for once! My previous attempts to get things running with it usually ended with 3ds Max yelling at me and crashing. So Im glad it's working. Tomorrow we have our weekly meeting to discuss...things. Im not terribly excited about it, I just want to go do more WORK!
