Week 8

24 July 2006. Monday. 12:42 pm.

Sounds like it's time to give these totally radical new blogs a whirl. Today, monday, marks the beginning of our 8th week as TribeMind Studios. In these past 7 weeks we have gone from a loose set of ideas to detailed artwork and several functional prototypes exploring the realization of our combined creative energies. Meanwhile, our "business guys", Derrick and Andre, who are developing our business plan for course credit through RIT, are hard at work preparing our group for commercialization. Neither of these guys are avid gamers, but their objective research is leading them to feel the same energy that the rest of us do. This industry is ready to explode, and we're going to ride the wave. In our minds and soon to be on our website ;) are the workings for what we know will be an awesome game... a game each and every one of us would want to play. And that's why this game will rock. TribeMind's first game is brought to you entirely by us. We are gamers, and we are making a game for gamers.

None of this could have been possible without an awesome team. I can't express enough how impressed I am with everyone this Summer. We are doing better than I ever thought possible, and if we keep this up then success is inevitable.

Currently, we have a developing architecture and evolutionary prototype built around the primary actor of our game: the robot. Andy completed a networking prototype using Raknet (http://www.rakkarsoft.com/) a couple weeks ago to explore the viability of Raknet as a networking package. The results were promising, and beginning today I will be introducing some Client-Server design into our existing architecture. We have a design in mind and, for the next few days specifically, I will be implementing the design into another evolutionary prototype. By the end of the week, I hope to have our primary prototype networked.
